Prefinishing

Aitkin Hardwoods provides prefinishing as a service. The products milled onsite are unfinished, there are some products that are standard with factory finish as well. Working with Aitkin Hardwoods prefinisher provides the convenience and consistency to maximize the beauty in each board.

Options in prefinishing:

Prefinished: This option is the most common and our standard option this includes
2 coats of lacquer with moisture resistance. Lacquer is a clear coating oil base, that dries by solvent evaporation and often a curing process as well that produces a hard, durable finish in any sheen level.

Backseal: There is also an option to seal the backside of the product which is mainly for moisture protection. This option is the same as the lacquer prefnishing option but with one coat.

Conditioning: Conditioning the wood helps achieve a consistent, non blotchy, look prior to stain.

Stain: Colors the wood. Custom stain colors available.

All products are machine sprayed and machine sanded for a smooth consistent look if this is desired.
